At Last, Farewell to Poverty!
By Hafsat Abiola-Costello
Dear Nigerians,
Saturday is D-Day. It is a moment of joy that Nigeria has again been
given an opportunity to stand on its feet. In this, I see clear evidence
of God’s love for us. But we must now do our part. Let money not blind
us to the task that is ours to do for the wealth that can be ours is far
greater than any that our friends might offer us to induce our support
for their candidate.
Why Nigerians Should Not Reward Failure in these Elections
Watching aspects of our political drama play out, you cannot but
conclude that at its heart is character. Like most African cultures, in
general, and Nigerian ones, in particular, premium is placed on the
content of character. It was essentially character which transformed a
slave boy into King Jaja of Opobo, taking advantage of the reforms of
King Amachree amongst the Ijaw people in the 19th Century. The same Jaja
was the catalyst of what is today Nigeria. Without his trade excellence
there would never have been the Royal Niger Company, and our eventual
colonial adventure would not have played out the way it did. Character
as it plays out in this administration can be captured in the metaphoric
story of a fortunate boy granted a scholarship to an elite school. This
was not because, like many otherwise poor students, he had scored
exceptionally in the entrance examinations or that he was very
hardworking; in fact fortune smiled on him because he was not
remarkable. He was just a bland possibility on which everyone projected
their desires and hopes.
Don’t rely on election results from social media – NBC warns TV, radio stations
The folks on social media may put out their election results on

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how this election will be conducted tomorrow

People have been talking about the election date for the
past seven weeks now, with rumours flying around about an indefinite
postponement. But now the big day is tomorrow and it’s time for the Nigerian people to decide who will run this country for the next four years.
A lot of people will probably turn up to vote tomorrow
given how much people engaged during the buildup and given the level
anticipation people have demonstrated. In fact, many of these people
will be voting for their first time tomorrow.

2015 Presidential election: How and why Pdp will lose
By Dr. Umar Ardo
Let me start by saying from the onset that I am PDP. I have always been PDP; and no one can deny me of being PDP.
.Let me start by saying from the onset that I am PDP. I have always been PDP; and no one can deny me of being PDP.
But there are two kinds of PDP - the
positive and the negative PDP; I am of the positive PDP who have
remained within to fight the negative PDP. Thank God Almighty, it is now
obvious that Nigerians are at last ready to get rid of the negative PDP
in 2015. I believe it could well be for this purpose that our judiciary
failed to determine President Jonathan’s ineligibility status when the
latter insisted on contesting the election. Yes, we all want the
ravaging PDP out of power and out of our national lives.
In Celebration of Jonathan’s Exit
By Erasmus Ikhide
By Monday next week – to be precise – the canoe-carver-born former
university teacher would have bitten the dust. Results of the
presidential election would have humbled him. It would be the heaviest
political fall from grace to grass where he was wrath primitively on the
luckless nation. If he wins by default, through deceitful manipulation
of the poll or announcing himself as the winner of the election, he
would have succeeded in manipulating Nigeria out of herself, in the same
token.

How Jonathan Paid AIT’s Raymond Dokpesi N8 Billion for ‘Nothing’ – Amazing Revelations From PM News

Between Jonathan and Buhari: The Lines Are Clear
By Zayyad Abdullahi
It will please some of you to know
that I almost titled this article “My President is a Bitch!” It will
please the rest of you to know me and my mum unanimously agreed I
wouldn’t survive a day in Kirikiri prisons hence begrudgingly decided
against it. With elections a mere five days away, both camps are fully
into desperation mode. The mudslinging and cat fighting from both
parties would leave even the cast of Jersey Shore in awe. For the most
part, the attacks have been targeted at the opposition candidate,
retired General Muhammadu Buhari. He has been called every word
synonymous with dictator. He has been called a bigot, old, tired,
uncompromising and more. Some have even questioned his sincerity of
purpose and return to active politics after having had multiple
opportunities to “chop” in the past.

Turning point: The rise and rise of General Buhari
By Seun Fakuade
The unprecedented rise of Muhammadu
Buhari, whose incorruptibility and integrity remains unquestionable, is
not only an indictment of the failure of leadership under Goodluck
Jonathan but a validation of the visionless leadership that has remained
elusive of the present administration. Indeed, the rise of the son of
Daura is a reminder of the combined hopelessness that has engulfed
Nigeria for the past five years. Reasonably, and for any avoidance of
doubt, President Jonathan’s campaign should have been based on his
numbers (his sterling performance) rather than the propaganda employed
against Buhari’s past.

The sins of 1999 must not be repeated in this election
By Feyi Fawehinmi
If we made mistakes back then, it only becomes unforgiveable if we make the same mistake this time around again.
My friend used to tell me about a guy who went on to become a
Governor of one of the South West states in the 1999 election. Before he
got the Alliance for Democracy (AD) ticket to run as governor, he used
to regularly visit their house. My friend says there was never a time he
had a meal without decorating his agbada with some of the stew. And
then when it was time for him to leave, they would have to help his exit
by pushing his car to start.Such was the speed with which General Abdulsalami Abubakar found and relinquished power that many people perhaps did not believe that democracy was going to return. As Bertrand Russell famously put it “the intelligent are full of doubt while the stupid are cocksure.” Nigeria was there for the taking and some of our brightest minds decided to adopt a siddon look approach. In effect, our second eleven went out to represent us.
Why we can’t afford to sit on the fence
Promises
and lies are the cheapest commodities of this era. With the rising
proportion of deceit in the land, objectivity has been sent on vacation.
A community of the deceived is also growing by the day. Interrogation
and introspection are in a state of dormancy as party devotees continue
to spread the embellished messages of their principals. Having suspended
civility, decorum and decency, the government in power and the
opposition are bent on outdoing each other in a bid to capture the votes
of the masses.
As I ponder on the forthcoming
elections, my mind wanders back to the June 12, 1993 election, one that
was adjudged the freest and fairest election in Nigeria’s political
history. In anticipation of hope, the central message at the time,
Nigerians, for the first time, defied every historical factor that had
tainted our elections. Religion, tribe, sentiments, and emotions were
set aside as the people cast their vote for M.K.O. Abiola of the Social
Democratic Party.
On the Verge of a New Dispensation
By Pastor Taiwo Odukoya
Nigeria is at the verge of a new political dispensation. Indeed, the
times are proving to be interesting and particularly instructive. For
one, never in the history of this nation have the citizens been so
interested in the electoral process. The Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC), as well as the political candidates, are under
intense public scrutiny, both locally and internationally. Put simply,
the world is watching us. Not just in the outcome of the coming
elections, but in the way and manner we conduct ourselves.
Jonathan’s Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics
“A well-wrapped statistic,” said Darrell Huff, six decades ago, “is
better than Hitler’s “big lie”; it misleads, yet it cannot be pinned on
you.” So, to save the ordinary citizen from the mischievous use of
statistics, Huff deemed it fit to teach regular folks how to do wicked
statistics, hence his book, How to Lie with Statistics.
Here’s how Huff defended his project: “This book is a sort of primer
in ways to use statistics to deceive. It may seem altogether too much
like a manual for swindlers. [But] the crooks already know these tricks;
honest men must learn them in self-defence.”
Unlike Huff, I wouldn’t (and can’t) cover all the angles people
employ to deceive with statistics. Like him, however, it is a concern
seeing how people abuse statistics and deploy them as a weapon to tell
lies. So I propose to share three tips of how to spot a bad statistic.
Why Jonathan, PDP Must Go
I want to thank all of you for taking time off your very busy
schedules to be part of this session; especially a few days to the
elections, which by all accounts could be historic and critical for the
soul of our dear country. Election is a referendum on the performance of the incumbent
government and a decision whether to keep it in office or vote it out of
office.
As Progressive Governors who are committed to Good Governance, this
year’s 1st Quarter Progressive Governance Session is designed to present
our assessment of governance challenges in Nigeria today as well as our
proposals on what needs to be done to move our country forward, post-
May 29, 2015.
Why Nigerians Should Vote Buhari
Nigeria’s future truly hangs in the balance and the outcome depends
entire on the presidential election. Nigeria is adrift, having been
battered non-stop for six years under the failed leadership of President
Goodluck Jonathan. With him at the helm, our armed forces lost the
ability to protect its citizens and borders. Nigerians are dying from
suicide bombings and mass slaughter from terrorists, the economy is in
shambles with massive devaluation of the Naira. Our foreign reserve is
depleting faster than we can blink. Youth unemployment is at an all time
high, banks and oil companies are laying off workers, industries are
closing shop or relocating to other West African countries due to high
operational costs. Healthcare has remained an illusion, salaries are
unpaid for months, pensions are looted in the midst of a financial
crisis that was foretold and preventable.
