The folks on social media may put out their election results on
various platforms but television and radio stations better not rely on
them till INEC makes an announcement.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has cautioned broadcast
stations against announcing election results obtained through social
media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
The NBC Director General, Emeka Mbah, gave out the awrning on
Thursday, March 26, while addressing a press conference in Enugu State.
Mbah stated that only the results declared by INEC should be
announced by the electronic media, adding that any station who violated
the directive would be sanctioned.
He added that only the INEC was authorised to announced results as contained in Section 5.2.15 of the broadcast code.
Mbah said: “Broadcasters are reminded that the social media is not an official source for release of election results.”
