Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice-President-elect, on Wednesday said that God had done an awesome thing in giving his party victory in the presidential election.
Osinbajo, who ran on a joint ticket with retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, spoke from Abuja in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

“I am very happy, God has done an awesome thing,’’ Osinbajo, told NAN, when asked about his feelings on the outcome of the election.
The nation’s electoral body, INEC, had, on Wednesday, declared Buhari winner of the March 28 presidential election, in which he beat other contestants, including President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP.
Osinbajo expressed appreciation to all Nigerians for their votes which, he said, gave his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), victory in the presidential election.
He reiterated the party’s promise to make life better for the average Nigerian.
“We already have a manifesto which clearly says that we are determined to change this country and turn the direction of the country around.
“Our promise is to work every single day, determined to make life better for the average Nigerian,” he said.
Osinbajo said that the electoral process, by and large, had proved to be quite versatile.
“I think it was flexible enough to accommodate a lot of the issues and problems that came up.
“Of course, there is a long way to go in getting the system to work perfectly,” he said.
On President Jonathan’s action of conceding defeat, Osinbajo said it was commendable.
NAN reports that President Jonathan, ahead of the official declaration of Buhari as winner, had called him on phone to congratulate him and wish him the best.
Osinbajo said the President, by his action, demonstrated tremendous maturity and decency.
“I think that will set an example which would perhaps provide some kind of guide to others as to what to do in situations such like that.
“I think he provided a good example as to what to do when obviously you find out that you lost an election.
“The right thing to do is to congratulate the victor and I think the President did the right thing,” Osinbajo said. (NAN)
