A
recent study by the University of York attempted to model the specific
physical attributes that underpin our first impressions.
The work showed how small changes in the dimensions of a face made it appear more approachable, dominant or attractive.
Results found some obvious trends; masculine faces with strong
jawlines were perceived as dominant, while approachability and
trustworthiness was seen in those with broad smiles.
It’s a project that might have interested Samuel Eto’o, who would
have discovered that a curled lip and slumped shoulders were not the
best way to endear himself to his new employers.
At 33, the value of making a good first impression appears to have
been lost on the striker, who, less than a week after joining Sampdoria
from Everton, incurred the wrath of coach Sinisa Mihajlovic with another
unwise display of dissent.
