Nigeria Military makes progress; recaptures 11 towns

The Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade yesterday said that the Nigeria military and Air Force have made significant progress in the fight to crush the Boko Haram insurgents as troops killed over 300 members of the sect.

The General in a statement said that the 300 insurgents were killed in a combined raid carried out by the Air Force and the Army to liberate 11 towns occupied by the terrorists. 

Olukolade said the communities liberated include Monguno, Gabchari, Abba Jabari, Gajigana, Gajiram, Damakar, Kumaliwa, Bosso Wanti, Jeram and Kabrisungul.

He also said that some of the terrorists and their weapons were captured by the troops. 

The weapons captured by the troops include “five different types of armoured fighting vehicles, an anti-aircraft gun, 50 cases of packed bombs and eight different types of machine guns, five rocket-propelled grenade, 49 boxes of various types and calibres and ammunitions”. 

According to Olukolade, 300 motorcycles and 6 Hilux vehicles belonging to the insurgents were also destroyed in the operation.

He said that 2 soldiers lost their lives in the operation, and 11 others who were wounded are currently undergoing treatment.
