The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Monday signed a peace accord ahead of the general election.
The candidates signed the peace pact at the official residence of the US Consul-General in Nigeria, Mr. Jeffrey Hawkins, in Ikoyi in the presence of the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. James F. Entwistle, and religious leaders.
At the forum, Ambode read the content of the peace agreement thus: “I, Akinwunmi Ambode, do hereby pledge on behalf of myself and my supporters, to promote peaceful participation in the 2015 election and beyond.
“I do further pledge to accept the outcome of the Lagos State election, whatever it may be and to seek redress for any perceived injustice through legal and legitimate channels,” the APC governorship candidate read.
Likewise, Agbaje, the PDP governorship candidate, read the content of the peace accord and signed thereafter in the presence of critical stakeholders including civil society organisations and faith-based groups among others.
Others signatories were the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins, National Missioner of Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Imam Abdulrahman Ahmad, Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin and National Missioner of Fatil-ul-Qareeb Islamic Society, Sheikh Abdurrahman Adangba.
