The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday sounded off a warning to
the federal government to decisively intervene to ensure the
restoration of regular supply of the products. Speaking on the issue, NLC president Comrade Ayuba Wabba alleged that
a conspiracy of some sort was ongoing as major stakeholders were still
not sure about how much money was being owed to the marketers.
He called on the Government to take immediate action to review the activities of its agencies in the oil and gas industry, claiming that the scarcity may have been ignited by those clamouring for the removal of subsidy on petroleum.
He said: “The scarcity has led to sharp practices with workers paying between N120 to N130 per litre at some filling stations. For workers commuting by public transport, they now pay more to get to work even when there are no increases in salaries.
“This painful experience Nigerians have been subjected to have been exacerbated by the embarrassing tirade between the fuel marketers and the Federal government represented by the Coordinating Minister on the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on the actual amount owed the marketers,” he added.
