“Unlike the current govt, I will not tamper with LG allocations if elected” – Agbaje promises

At a town hall meeting on Saturday in Somolu local government area, the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos state, Jimi Agbaje, promised that if elected as Lagos governor, he would not touch the allocations meant for local government councils.

He said that all constitutional entitlements, funds, finances and duties of the local governments as written in the constitution would be strictly adhered to.

Faulting the the current operational system of local government councils in the state, the governorship candidate described them as political machines rather than governance structures.
He said: “The State government has taken over the funds and functions of the councils,. Local government areas in Lagos do not know about building roads any longer. Inner roads in the state that should have been maintained by Councils are abandoned to the detriment of tax payers.
“The only roads that are taken care of are major state roads.”
He also noted that states could no longer build inner roads which he said is part of the functions of local governments.
