No
matter his short comings, on the over all, former president Olusegun
Obasanjo is a legend, a blessing to Nigeria because he brought victory
to a united Nigeria in 1970; took over national leadership in crisis in
1975; handed over to a civilian government in 1979; criticised and
advised every head of state after him such as Shehu Shagari, Muhammadu
Buhari, Ibrahim Babangida, Sani Abacha (who jailed him), and Abdulsalami
Abubakar who handed over to him in 1999. Other leaders kept “quiet”.
If not for him, with Gen. T.Y. Danjuma,
the military would have come back after six months in 1999. He was
annoyed with his political son who, to him, was not performing well, for
which he Obasanjo has been blamed. How many of OBJ’s critics went to
jail or exile like Wole Soyinka and Bola Tinubu under Abacha?
thank God for giving Nigeria Obasanjo- fearless, detribalised, energetic and patriotic.
