So what was Gov. Rotimi Amaechi,
the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential
Campaign Organisation and Rivers State Governor doing yesterday at the
Jigawa Government House in Dutse? Answer: He was having a secret meeting
with the PDP governor of the state, Sule Lamido.
But why?
Answer: We don’t know. The men refused to talk to the press.
On Sunday, the two men who used to be
allies when they formed part of the new PDP group which broke out from
the party following a flawed convention in 2013. They have since parted
ways and Lamido has spent a lot of time recently hitting at the people
who left PDP for the APC. But like they say, in politics, there are no
permanent foes.
Lamido is the coordinator of Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation for North-West
zone; while Amaechi is the director-general of the Buhari Presidential
Campaign Council.
It was gathered that the two governors
started the closed-door meeting at the Presidential Lodge in Government
House, Dutse at about 10:05.am and ended at 11:30 am.
Lamido emerged after the meeting and
drove himself in a Peugeot 206 car without speaking to journalists and
returned to his official residence.
Amaechi who drove himself in a black
Toyota Land Cruiser jeep with few escorts to the government house also
declined to speak to journalists.
Also in attendance at the meeting was
APC chieftain in the state Alhaji Farouq Aliyu and the party candidate
for Jigawa Central Senatorial District Sabo Nakudu.
With all the talk that eight PDP
governors have entered into an alliance with the APC to support its
presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, it is believed that Lamido is
one of them.
